Hybrid multilayer cultivation with artificial light and sunlight

Additional cultivation towers in Agrotopia

The second and third vertical farming towers have been erected in the 12-meter-high facade greenhouse, Agrotopia. Last autumn, a first tower for hybrid cultivation was officially opened.

The installations, designed in cooperation with Urban Crop Solutions, combine multilayer cultivation with dynamic lighting and natural sunlight. This offers new opportunities for urban food production and provides inspiration for existing greenhouses worldwide.

Agrotopia's collaboration with Ghent University enables the team behind the gable greenhouse to thoroughly investigate and optimize the technical possibilities of these systems.

Specifically, the researchers want to use this type of system, among other things, to investigate the role it can play in current cultivation strategies, such as plant raising. This offers growers maximum flexibility to increase the productivity and sustainability of their cultivation systems.
