Botanicoir, a family-run specialist in sustainable coir substrate production, is marking its 20th anniversary in 2025 and will celebrate the milestone with events throughout the year for its team, customers, and partners.
Since it was founded in 2005, the company has grown into a trusted supplier for the commercial protected cultivation industry, providing high-quality, sustainable coir products to growers in over 70 countries worldwide.
A journey of growth and innovation
From its humble beginnings, Botanicoir has championed sustainability, quality, and innovation in the horticultural industry. The company's founders, Kalum, Samantha, and Chaminda Balasuriya, have worked alongside growers and industry experts to develop tailored solutions that meet the evolving needs of agriculture.
"We are thrilled to celebrate 20 years of excellence, innovation, and growth," says Kalum Balasuriya, Botanicoir founder. "This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our team, the loyalty of our growers, and the partnerships we've built along the way and we thank those we've worked with for their support. Here's to many more years of shared success and progress!"
Botanicoir will hold celebrations for growers, team and friends at its production facility in Sri Lanka, and at key events throughout the year, including Fruit Logistica in Berlin on 5-7 February and Fruit Focus, taking place at NIAB at East Malling on 9 July.
Founded in 2005, the company has continuously innovated with products such as compressed grow bags, Precision Plus, which launched in 2012, and then Precision Plus Ultra - launched in 2017, biodegradable packaging - launched in 2019, and Precision Start propagation coir launched in 2024, while expanding facilities in Sri Lanka and India to meet rising demand. Botanicoir was the first coir manufacturer to install a drying facility, ensuring year-round production, and in 2015 it invested in an advanced wastewater treatment plant in Sri Lanka, limiting environmental impact.
In 2009, Botanicoir partnered with Agrovista in the UK, working closely with the head of fruit, Mark Davies, and in 2020, it partnered with global substrate specialist, Legro, and the business continues to collaborate with industry leaders, community-focused initiatives like supporting a local orphanage and hospital in Sri Lanka.
"Our success is built on close collaboration with our growers," said Sander Steinmann, head of global sales. "Botanicoir's unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation positions us well for the future. I'm inspired by the team's passion and belief in their work."
