US (NC): Planting over 70 trays of microgreens

Conscious Cultivators recently shared insights from a large-scale planting session. The operation primarily utilizes trays from Bootstrap Farmer, chosen for their durability and ability to reduce breakage compared to older models.

A key focus of the session was refining workflow efficiency, particularly in soil handling. The team currently uses a wheeled trash can for soil transport and is exploring the use of a paint mixer to improve soil preparation. Emphasis was placed on maintaining optimal soil depth for microgreens while ensuring ergonomic planting techniques.

Looking ahead, Conscious Cultivators plan to collaborate with chefs to grow specific varieties, such as cilantro and beets. By implementing specialized planting methods, they aim to achieve even germination across all trays. The process also highlighted the importance of proper germination techniques, careful seed handling, and precise watering to support uniform growth.

To further enhance germination success, the team employs a stacking strategy for trays, utilizing garden bricks to minimize inconsistencies in growth. The session concluded with a review of daily tasks, including planting, harvesting, and cleaning, underscoring the importance of efficiency in maintaining a productive microgreens operation.
