UK: Gene-edited tomatoes to hit shelves soon?

Last week on BBC Radio4's Farming Today Harvest London co-founder Matt spoke to Charlotte Smith about the company's involvement in a project that could help shape the future of vertical farming.

For the first time, gene-edited tomato plants have been developed specifically for vertical farm environments. These miniaturized versions of the classic Ailsa Craig tomato are designed to thrive under artificial light, producing a high yield of fruit from remarkably compact plants.

"This project, developed by Phytoform at Rothamsted Research, has huge implications for how vertical farms like ours can grow high-quality produce more efficiently and sustainably."

While these tomatoes are still in the development stage and not yet on supermarket shelves, the potential is enormous.
