Stephanie Finklea, owner of Black Chick Farm and Omaha Sunflower Cooperative is one of many local farmers creating food security for Nebraskans. "I have found partnerships within Omaha to where I can provide a bridge in that gap in building a local food system that is accessible for all," she said.
"There is food insecurity everywhere and I think there's a misconception sometimes of where people are located, so they think they just have it," said Talia McGill, president and CEO of No More Empty Pots.
Last year the organization started growing their own produce on their top floor. They sell their crops at their micro market on the first level of their building. They also sell locally sourced products.
Working with farmers like Finklea, No More Empty Pots gets healthy options to those who can't afford them. Their Highlander Produce Program is an example.
