Telangana, India is positioning itself as a hub for horticulture startups, supported by innovative work and vision. Telangana's work in producing crops like turmeric, chilies, tomatoes, and leafy vegetables is why it is seen as a fertile ground for startups. Desi vegetable seed production and bee-keeping ventures are poised for growth. The concept of "green gifting"—giving plants instead of traditional gifts—is also catching on, indicating a cultural shift toward sustainable practices.
The private sector also offers possibilities. From landscaping and organic farming to consulting and exotic crop production, SKLTGHU graduates are in high demand. Telangana's focus on expanding oil palm cultivation has also created a significant number of new job opportunities. Private industries involved in nurseries, seed production, hydroponics, aeroponics, and biotechnology frequently seek out SKLTGHU graduates, making horticulture a dynamic field with options for both stable employment and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Danda Raji Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTGHU), said the state is rapidly becoming a center for growth and opportunity in various horticultural fields.
The pandemic catalyzed a surge in horticultural startups, with nearly 60 percent of these ventures focusing on health-conscious and value-added products. Dr. Reddy has observed that the future of entrepreneurship in Telangana is largely in horticulture, with the sector primed for continuous growth and innovation.
