Air fumigation battles mold problems in vertical farm

While innovatively growing samphire in a multilayer growing system, Sustainable Indoor Farming ran into a mold problem. The solution to the problem was found in air treatment with a combination of UV-C and ozone. Tuprotec supplied the T20 Airliner for this purpose.

"I have known Lies van Geest of Tuprotec for twenty years," says Willem Kemmers, one of the founders of Sustainable Indoor Farming. The company is developing vertical farming in Bergen op Zoom, using various techniques. "We are independent of suppliers and use techniques from different suppliers. In doing so, we like to offer the opportunity to test new techniques."

Because of the fungus problem in growing samphire, Lies from Tuprotec offered a demo model of his T20 Airliner. "With that, we made a huge improvement. Mold pressure is now much lower." Lies points out that the system also kills off viruses, bacteria, and flying pests. Lies: "You can easily sweep up the dead bugs with a broom afterward at the device."

Via air movement through the growing space, all the air is treated by the T20 Airliner. In addition to the Airliner, Tuprotec also offers the T20 Airmaster.
