'Pakistan needs help from policymakers to boost vertical farming'

Water scarcity has hit Pakistan hard, underscoring the need to adopt vertical farming as a modern cultivation method. The Nation, spoke to WealthPK, Dr. Amin, agricultural economist and he suggested that the policymakers facilitate vertical farming for the small-scale farmers living near the urban areas, as private housing colonies are rapidly eroding fertile agricultural lands. He urged them to help the small farmers in starting with basic hydroponic systems and gradually adopting more advanced technologies.

"We have observed developments in the solar-powered systems, which could be a game changer and make vertical farming viable in the rural areas. Shedding light on the products produced through vertical farming, he said market accessibility will be a sticking point for the farmers. However, the rural implementation of vertical farming products requires different economic models."
