The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) announced its readiness to train farmers in vegetable production, focusing on the F1 species of bell pepper. Professor Ayo Olalusi, the team lead for vegetable production, explained that the process involves planting and nurturing this hybrid variety, which offers several advantages over traditional types.
During a visit to the University's Greenhouse Research Farm, Olalusi described the F1 bell pepper as an early-ripening variety that doesn't require staking and is resistant to diseases.
He said, "The advantageous features include a high level of resistance to diseases, vigorous and strong plant, sweet flavor, and the fruit size is about 10-11 cm width by 11-12 cm length, while it weighs between 250-280g."
