Trinidad and Tobago prisoners get hydroponics training program

Last Saturday, inmates and officers at Carrera Convict Prison participated in the final session of a hydroponics training program hosted by the Waking Up Agriculture Foundation.

According to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Sherwin Bruce, who heads the Offender Management Department, the inmates have now gained valuable skills for sustainable farming.

In a video posted to the Trinidad and Tobago Prisons Service social media page, Bruce explained that the program stemmed from a similar one offered at the Youth Training Centre (YTC) supported by the Digicel Foundation.

He said the program was initially geared towards training the inmates with life skills and saleable skills.
