Crops and salmon lost in Nebraska City fire

In Nebraska City, one of the nation's only two combined fish and vegetable farms has been burned beyond repair.

The business said an electrical issue sparked the fire, and the flames killed all its crops and livestock. The family behind Nebraska Vegetable and Protein is now planning a way forward after thanking the community and first responders for keeping everyone safe.

The VanderVeen family says they were putting their kids to bed when someone came racing up the driveway, and the family then saw the facility was engulfed.

It was the day 19 months of work was supposed to be shipped around a 60-mile radius from their farm. A fraction of the 80,000 behind the family's house.
