We already updated you shortly on the market developments last week. There is good hope for more construction activity in the North American market in 2025. That is clear after a round of the Canadian Greenhouse Conference. However, people are also keeping their options open. In recent years, there was also hope for better construction times, but in the end, it remained rather disappointing, although when construction takes place in Canada or North America, it often involves the necessary acres.
As the CGC is one of the events to actually meet growers, lights, viruses and energy effiency measures were talked about extensively - these are important tools to improve, or downgrade, the final results of a season.
Another topic of discussion at the fair is substrate. Especially in local pepper cultivation, people are running into problems, comparable to the problems that previously arose in the Netherlands. Root problems, in other words. The cause remains a guess, but growers are now opting for other substrates, with coco at the forefront. Other growers remain loyal to their trusted substrate, but one grower does entrust us with this, he does so 'with clenched buttocks'. So far he has not had any problems, but that seems more luck than wisdom.
