Italian supermarket adds vertical farm-grown salads to its offering

More and more large-scale retail chains are betting on vertical farming to relaunch the IV range sector. After Coop and Conad, the latest news comes from MD: the discount chain has launched three salads grown aeroponically from scratch. Available from today in 100 Md stores, with plans to soon expand them to the entire network.

Lettuce, Balsamic, and Spicy: these are the names of the new 100% Italian and completely sustainable IV range salads now available on the shelves of MD, a brand that has made the offer of fruit and vegetables one of its strong points. Fresh and high quality, as usual for MD, these salads are ready to eat and are green even in the packaging: transparent trays in recycled and 100% recyclable plastic.

The three references – composed of baby lettuce, lettuce, purple basil, and spicy mustards – are grown aeroponically. Currently available in 100 stores throughout the country, the new line of aeroponic vertically grown vegetables is part of the "La Buona Spesa non solo a parole" project , which aims to offer high-quality products obtained through sustainable and innovative methods and technologies. A mission consolidated this year with the first edition of the sustainability report and which reflects MD's constant commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible innovation.
