"Saffron is known for being difficult to cultivate, it's a time-consuming process that often results in unpredictable yields. These issues have made it challenging to scale saffron production globally," says Tal Wilk-Glazer, CEO at Saffron Tech. To address these barriers, Saffron Tech developed an approach aimed at reviving saffron farming.
Saffron Tech recently launched a pilot site allowing to grow saffron year-round, drastically improving both the consistency and quality of production. "Thanks to this pilot site, saffron can now be grown with enhanced quality and efficiency. The success of this advancement is driven by our cutting-edge autonomous cultivation technology," Tal explains.
The facility reduces labor needs, addressing one of the most critical challenges in saffron production. By using in-house automation technology, Saffron Tech has created a scalable solution that not only produces high-quality saffron but also enhances operational efficiency whilst making production more predictable.
Expansion plans
In addition to growing saffron, Saffron Tech is expanding into the B2B market with saffron extraction handlings. The extract, which retains the spice's potent medicinal properties, is highly sought after for use in nutraceuticals, beauty, and wellness products. "Our proprietary extraction is packed with the active medicinal properties saffron is known for, making it perfect for nutraceuticals, beauty, and wellness products. We uphold top-notch quality and fair employment practices, making us a standout choice for collaboration," Tal adds.
Planning t roll out commercial saffron farms in the new future, "This expansion will solidify our position in the saffron industry and ensure a steady supply of premium saffron for our B2B clients across various sectors," Tal explains. These new farms will leverage updated technology and growth protocols to meet rising demand for saffron extract.
Its autonomous cultivation system, powered by proprietary software, is Saffron Tech's key component of this expansion. As Tal highlights, the software integrates climate control, irrigation, fertilization, and lighting, optimizing each stage of saffron cultivation. The software powers autonomous saffron cultivation by running the company's growth protocols through an advanced monitoring and control system.
Vision for 2025
Looking to the future, Saffron Tech company aims to launch its first full-scale commercial saffron farm with an annual target production of 4,000 pounds of premium saffron extract. "Looking ahead to 2025, we've set clear and ambitious goals to realize this vision," Tal notes. Saffron Tech also plans to form key partnerships to improve its supply chain and address industry-wide challenges such as quality inconsistencies and supply inefficiencies.
