Chinese province gets boost through mushroom industry

Northwest China's Gansu Province has long faced economic challenges due to its geographic and environmental conditions. But in recent years, the region has worked to diversify development opportunities by harnessing its rich natural and cultural resources. In Tianzhu County, the rapidly growing mushroom industry is now a key source of local income. Yang Jinghao has the story.

Tianzhu is home to diverse ethnic groups, predominantly a Tibetan community. Once a deeply underdeveloped region, the local government has in recent years focused on fostering specialized industries that suit the area's unique environment. These include plateau summer vegetables, medicinal herbs, livestock breeding and edible mushrooms.
