Power of photosynthesis

"🌿 Harnessing the Power of Photosynthesis 🌿

Stefan Hey and I had the pleasure of welcoming Michele Grieco, a leading photosynthesis expert, to our vGreens vertical farming facility in Essen, Germany! 🌱🍓

Photosynthesis is crucial for the growth and quality of our strawberries, yet it's notoriously difficult to measure and interpret. Using advanced artificial LED lighting, we are creating the perfect conditions for photosynthesis in our indoor farm. Thus, enabling our plants to efficiently convert light into the energy they need to flourish.

Thanks to Michele we can now dive even deeper into optimizing this process. His expertise is helping us fine-tune our lighting strategies to maximize light use efficiency – a complex task that requires nuanced interpretation of data.

So, where exactly lie the challenges in measuring photosynthesis?

👉 Complex Interactions: Light intensity, CO₂ levels, temperature, humidity, and the plant's physiological state all interact in complex ways affecting photosynthesis.

👉 Light Distribution: In a vertical farming setup, light can be unevenly distributed, making it difficult to achieve consistent measurements.

👉 Dynamic Response: Photosynthetic efficiency changes throughout the day and varies across different stages of plant growth, complicating the standardization of optimal conditions.

👉 Measurement Sensitivity: High sensitivity is required to detect subtle changes in photosynthetic activity, making precise measurements challenging.

Addressing these challenges will allow us to refine our approach and push the boundaries of what sustainable, high-yield vertical farming can achieve! 🌟 Thank you, @Michele, for sharing your expertise with us! It was a pleasure showing you around our first industrial module.

We are excited to continue exploring innovations that support our mission of delivering fresh, high-quality strawberries year-round, using methods that are both sustainable and scalable," shares Sajid Bangash.
