Square Mile Farms, in collaboration with Canary Wharf Group (CWG), is creating an interactive vertical farming experience in the heart of Canary Wharf. Taking inspiration from Canary Wharf's partnership with the Eden Project, which is reviving the neighborhood with a biodiverse green spine, Square Mile Farms will use its hydroponic technology, to extend the greening project indoors.
From the 24th of September to the 1st of November, a store in Jubilee Place will be converted into an indoor farm, growing a wide range of leafy greens and herbs. The farm will also host fun and informative events, including educational visits for school groups and cooking demonstrations in partnership with neighboring restaurants using produce harvested directly from the farm.
After the 6 weeks, all the remaining produce will be donated to London-based food redistribution charity The Felix Project to be shared with the wider community.
Stuart Fyfe, Managing Director for Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Leasing, at CWG, says, "The Urban Farm is a unique offering for Canary Wharf, allowing our community to connect with nature, even indoors. And what better time to launch than in the runup to the reveal of our long anticipated green transformation in partnership with the Eden Project, an initiative that will open up access to nature and the waterside in the heart of Canary Wharf."
Patrick Dumas, CEO of Square Mile Farm says "We are excited to be joining in the celebration of CWG's partnership with the Eden Project and their green transformation. The vision of creating exciting new green spaces for the local community aligns completely with Square Mile Farms' goal of reconnecting people with nature and specifically, food."
