Goya by Maraldi Sementi, widely used in Italy and France

"An excellent variety of lamb's lettuce for the summer"

"Goya Lamb's lettuce has successfully passed its final test", declared Maraldi Sementi at the launch of the baby lettuce. This is confirmed by the excellent results obtained in the various tests carried out in Italy and France, the two countries in the world where this type of lettuce is most widespread.

In fact, Goya has been included in the experimental variety comparison trials in both Italy and France for three consecutive years and has immediately shown that it has all the qualities to become a new variety, and above all, an excellent summer crop.

This lamb's lettuce is very compact and has a particularly upright growth habit, forming a well-balanced rosette with fleshy, rounded leaves and a short stem, all of which make it suitable for periods of high temperature and intense sunlight.

The compactness of this variety makes it very resistant to washing; in fact, centrifugation to remove sand from the product (before packaging) can sometimes ruin the rosette, accelerating the premature deterioration of the washed product.

The thickness of the leaves and the slower growth make it possible to obtain a high-quality product even in periods that are less suitable for the species, such as summer, when production cycles are greatly reduced, and so are yields. In short, Goya seems to be a guarantee on several fronts.

"To ensure a profitable summer crop, growers have developed special technical equipment that can make all the difference. The use of shade cloths and protective coatings, the application of mulch with TNT immediately after sowing (to ensure uniform germination), irrigation management, and finally, the choice of variety to be grown, depending on the purpose, are indispensable factors that can make or break a farm. In this context, the new Goya variety provides growers with an additional tool for managing a productive summer valerian crop."

"The use of quality seeds is also crucial, especially in the summer period. Maraldi Sementi, with its technical staff, guarantees complete control of the supply chain, from propagation by qualified companies, to direct and careful control of the plants in the field, to cleaning, sizing and disinfection at Maraldi's headquarters in Cesena."

"Goya is the result of an all-encompassing effort which, from genetic selection to market launch, involves the interaction of various players, and it is thanks to this mix of experience that we are able to enter the market with a high-performance product. Collaboration with farmers is also fundamental, allowing us to test and evaluate future varieties and identify those best suited to growers' needs.

"Maraldi Sementi currently offers a catalogue of 6 varieties, to which new ones will soon be added. To complete the summer range, we can mention the Valerianelle Matisse and Exel, well known and established in northern Italy, and the variety Miro, which has also established itself in the Latina area."

"With the introduction of Goya in the summer period, we want to offer our customers a variety that can be used even during periods of extreme heat, which are becoming more frequent in these times of sudden climate change," concludes Maraldi's note.
