Indian retailer DMart posts 17.5% rise in Q1 profit
India's Avenue Supermarts, the operator of the DMart retail store chain, posted a 17.5% rise in first-quarter net profit. It reported a consolidated net profit of 7.74bln Indian rupees ($92.68mln) for the three months ended June 30 versus 6.59bln a year earlier.

Damian Galluzzo is hard at work at an iconic local grocery in Sydney. As he has done for more than 30 years, Damian started work at 2am collecting fresh produce from the Sydney Markets. "That's the secret of our success", says Damian, 52. "We go to the market six days a week. We pick everything fresh. We have a good look and we taste, especially the fruit".

UN: ecommerce nowhere as established as in the Netherlands
No country in the world has as many internet users shopping online as the Netherlands, according to a new report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The ecommerce penetration rate is 84%. At least four out of five internet users in the UK, Sweden, and Denmark also shop online. China ranks fifth and is the first non-European country in the ecommerce penetration list, as indicated in UNCTAD's Digital Economy Report.

Croatia: Podravka to buy clutch of Fortenova food and drink assets
Croatian food group Podravka is set to purchase a number of food and drinks companies belonging to local agri-food business Fortenova Group. Both groups have signed an agreement to appoint Podravka as "the preferred partner" for the acquisition of its agricultural unit, according to a statement.

Finland: S Group's sales in January-June increased by more than one per cent compared to the previous year
In January–June, the retail sales before taxes of S Group's supermarket trade totalled EUR 5,218.8mln. Compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, sales grew by 2.9%. In the supermarket trade, sales of both the grocery and consumer goods segments in Finland continued to grow faster than the rest of the market.

US: Consumer Price Index - June 2024
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) declined 0.1% on a seasonally adjusted basis, after being unchanged in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The index for fruits and vegetables fell 0.5% in June, after being unchanged in May.
