With a new subsidiary, vGreens is opening a subsidiary in Singapore later in 2024. The startup from Essen produces fruit within its vertical farms using specially developed, AI-controlled software. Strawberry production works at the touch of a button.
The new subsidiary will focus on the development of automated tissue cultures using AI - all in order to be able to deliver high-quality plant material efficiently, worldwide. This is precisely the major challenge currently facing the vertical farming industry. The plant material is crucial for the productivity and profitability of indoor farms.
In the long term, Singapore could be an important location for vGreens to tap into the entire Asian market. Singapore is increasingly relying on modern approaches to promoting food production, and vertical farming is seen as one of the most promising solutions. This method enables self-sufficient and resilient food production, which is of enormous importance in a region that is heavily dependent on imports.
In addition, vGreens plans to build the first industrial plants in cooperation with food retailers from 2025. These plants will enable retailers to offer fresh products all year round, regardless of traditional supply chains, weather conditions and seasonal restrictions. In addition, the production conditions can be flexibly adapted to the specific requirements of customers and markets. Together with strategic industry partners, vGreens offers advanced vertical farming solutions as an overall concept for supermarkets and retailers on an international level.
"We look forward to working with the companies and organizations that have accompanied us so far and in particular in the future," the team shared.
