CH Harverster presented at Indoor AgCon in Las Vegas and Greentech Amsterdam

Efficient harvesting of leafy vegetables grown in gutters

For several months now, Sormac has added the CH Harvester to its delivery program. This innovative harvester, designed for Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), has received many positive comments during the Indoor AgCon trade shows in Las Vegas and Greentech Amsterdam. The CH Harvester minimizes harvest losses and product damage, making it ideal for efficiently harvesting leafy vegetables grown in gutters.

Lots of interest during the Greentech

Operating principle
The CEA Harvester is used to harvest greenhouse-grown produce. Gutters with product are fed to the machine via a conveyor belt and centered just before cutting. Two circular knives, positioned just above the chute and adjustable in height, cut the leaves from the stalks. A conveyor with a thin turning roller, located just above the knives, feeds the product upwards. The chute runs straight through and continues its path via the discharge conveyor. At the cutting area, a fan blows air upwards from below, so that the leaves are upright during harvesting.

Doors with safety sensors on both sides of the machine enable maintenance and cleaning. The suspension of the elevating belt is attached to the height adjustment of the blades, allowing the cutting height to be adjusted relative to the gutter without changing the distance between the circular blades and the elevating belt. The centering of the chute, combined with the upward blowing of air and the height adjustment of the knives, ensures optimal cutting results with maximum yield.

The capacity of the harvester is precisely matched to the throughput of the processing or packing line that follows. The harvester can process up to 80 chutes of 12.6 meters each per hour. The harvester is suitable for processing stemmed leafy vegetables grown in gutters, floats, etc., with a width of 300 mm.
