US (CT); Milton couple taking homegrown microgreens to market

From consumer to seller, a Milton couple is in the microgreens business. Launched in 2023, Cherylyn and Jason Minto operate That Microgreens Guy, a homegrown business that deals in young produce rich in vitamins and nutrients.

"We grow in coco coir soil. We get heirloom seeds or organic seeds. We just water with our well water," said Ms. Minto. "They are as organic as you can possibly get; super nutrient dense and delicious."

Among the vendors at the June 19 Hops and Crops Market in Georgetown, their fresh harvest on that day featured broccoli, Lacinato Kale, Red Russian Kale, sunflower, spicy salad, red cabbage, wasabi, cilantro and radish.

Their microgreens operation is year-round and involves no outdoor gardening. "We grow them inside our home. We have a rack system. They grow under the grow lights," Ms. Minto said. "They grow fairly quickly. It only takes about 10 days from seed to harvest." They have a VIP customer list throughout the year.
