UK: Biggest grocery price increases over last five years highlighted in report
Savings experts at BravoVoucher analysed data from the Office for National Statistics on the average prices of food items from March 2019 to March 2024 to identify which items have seen the largest price increases. Cucumber has risen from £0.66 to £0.93, which is a 41% increase. The price of broccoli has increased by 33%, and onions by 29%. The fruit that has seen the biggest price hike is blueberries, at 24%, while bananas have risen by 19%.

FairPrice selling M'sia durians for S$1.95 each over 2 weekends
FairPrice's Annual Durian Fair is returning on June 14, featuring durians for as low as S$1.95. Spain: El Corte Inglés reports 5.4% increase in full-year revenue
El Corte Inglés has closed its 2023-2024 financial year with a 5.4% increase in annual revenue to €16.3bln. Out of this total, the retail business of El Corte Inglés generated €12.85mln, witnessing growth of 3.8% compared to the previous year. The Spanish retail company saw 'strong growth' in the food and hospitality segment, which includes the El Corte Inglés supermarkets, Hipercor, Supercor and Sánchez Romero banners, as well as the Gourmet Club and various restaurant formats.

UK: M&S Food invests over £1mln in donating bespoke meals for redistribution
Marks & Spencer has announced it is investing over £1mln in a brand-new way of addressing food poverty. From September, M&S will be sending the specially developed products to FareShare to distribute through its national network. Developed by M&S chefs, the Vegetable Curry, Carrot & Coriander Soup and Family Sized Pizza meals use surplus ingredients from within the retailer's existing supply chain which might otherwise go to waste, such as fresh vegetables.

UK: Tesco grows market share and sales in first quarter
Tesco has strengthened its market share and maintained its profit guidance for the year, after reporting a 4.6% rise in underlying UK sales for the first quarter. As a result, the UK's biggest grocer has kept its forecast for retail adjusted operating profit of at least £2.8bln for 2024/25, up from £2.76bln in 2023/24.
