Some Maskwacis schools receive a daily supply of freshly produced lettuce and other herbs from a plant in the city.
An operation manager for Akamihk Fresh, Jordon Gerein, told the Pipestone Flyer that the plant is currently offering a variety of veggies to at least ten schools around the city. "We supply them with what 80 to 100 pounds of lettuce every week," Gerein explained.
He further stated that "[the students] use the lettuce within their schools and the commercial kitchens, they have chefs who are chopping up the lettuce making salads, giving the students access to a fresh salad every day,"
Gerein detailed that around 3,000 students at these Maskwacis schools are benefiting from the veggies that are pesticide-free products.
