Alesca Life has recently launched a vertical farm project for its customer HICOM in Osaka, Japan. The vertical farm is equipped with storage and food processing facilities, where the customer will be able to go from seed to branded packed salad in the warehouse.
"I am extremely proud of our team who worked tirelessly to complete this launch in record time. This size farm is ideal for a retail or catering business with 100+ kg per day, roughly the size of 10-12 container farms and much more efficient in terms of space and ease of operation," says Ahmad Hammoud, Head of Operations at Alesca Life Technologies.
As Ahmad explains that the farm is similar to the size of ten to twelve container farms added up, that indicates that it would be sized between 122 - 146 m2 as a regular freight container comprises 12,19m2 (40 ft.) in total.
The facility used to be a 34-year old underutilized warehouse which is now converted into a vertical farm, thus there was no need to build a farm from scratch. Ever since its first design on December 2nd 2023, to the first seeding round in March 28 2024, which is about 117 days later, including 22 days of logistics, the farm is now successfully up and running.
