Sweden: Coop adds vertical farm to new store in residential block

Coop Butiker and Stormarkander invested in a new supermarket which will open in Spånga around Easter 2024. "It feels fantastic to be involved and contribute from the start with a modern food destination," says CEO Meta Persdotter.

Stora Coop will have an area of 2,600 square meters. In the store, there will be a manual delicatessen and fish department, a charcuterie, an in-store bakery, and will include a vertical farm that will cultivate veggies and herbs for the use of the supermarket.

The store will be part of the new residential block Ferdinand along Bromstensvägen in Spånga - which will also house 130 rental apartments and a nursing home. In connection, Bromstensstaden is being built with roughly 2,500 homes.

"It feels fantastic to be involved and contribute from the start with a modern food destination when the new Bromstenstaden in Spånga is emerging. The store will be a modern food market with a focus on food enjoyment, customer meetings, and inspiration, which in our world means that as many people as possible can get good, healthy, and sustainable food on the table while we never compromise on the good taste and the wonderful the experience," says Meta.
