The SAGE, which stands for Sustainable Agriculture Greenhouse Environment, is a concept that redefines the way we produce food, located right outside of downtown Cotati in the Heart and Hub of Sonoma County, the Veronda-Falletti Ranch.
Aquaponics: At the heart of SAGE is an aquaponic system where aquaculture and hydroponics unite to create a mutually beneficial environment. This method combines the cultivation of aquatic animals, typically fish, with the growth of plants in a soilless environment. The magic of aquaponics lies in the symbiotic relationship between the two components. The fish produce waste rich in nutrients, which is then converted by beneficial bacteria into a form that plants can readily absorb. In return, the plants filter and purify the water, creating a harmonious cycle. SAGE's aquaponics system not only conserves water but also minimizes the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, making it an eco-friendly solution for sustainable agriculture.
