Identify trends from retail data with new Analyzer tool

Market knowledge has become increasingly important for growers, breeders, traders, and supermarkets to ensure a successful business. One of the companies helping growers achieve this knowledge is Roamler. In addition to their Price Trackers and produce sourcing monitor, they're now introducing the Analyzer. "The Analyzer is what I like to describe as being a Client's Best Friend. This is the page where we can identify trends and patterns across a multitude of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in any given time period", says Christiaan Rijnhout, Commercial Lead Fresh.

The Analyzer page, available in the Roamler dashboard, contains a line graph which plots the trends, and a Moving Annual Totals (MAT) graph, which allows growers to spot changes on a yearly basis efficiently. "At the top of the page, we have what I call the When, What, and How boxes. Each box allows you to select 1 option, which then dictates what is shown in the graphs below", he says.

For example, the timeline allows you to change the basis on which you want to plot the data. "You can select Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Rolling MAT timelines, allowing you to perform trend analysis as high as quarterly and as low as weekly," Christiaan shows. The Legend contains the list of KPIs that are being tracked during the Roamler visits, including by Product Type, Product Color, Packaging Type, Brand, and Supplier. Then there's Measure, which is what's being used to plot the trends. Any grower or seller can use a variety of measures to perform your trend analysis, such as Distribution (the % of times we found whatever you are filtering in the Legend by I.E Product Type, Supplier, etc.), Average Price per KG (to see how pricing can change over time), Promotional Pricing per KG and Share of Shelf.

Dive deeper
Want more insights into your data? The filters included on the right side of the page allow you to dive even deeper into the data to be targeted in what you are investigating. The filters include time periods, location information such as retailer, country, and even region, and Product Information ranging from the product name, type, and packaging to whether the product is organic, the brand, supplier, country of origin, and even the GLN/GGN & EAN Codes (where available).

Christiaan explains how the monitors can be used extensively, for example, to spot competitor supplier activity in retailers and countries that users are entering. "This is valuable information if you want to learn more about a market you're possibly interested in," he says. "And using the Average Price per KG Measure and the Supplier Legend helps you to spot how a competitor supplier's pricing changes over time – a valuable tool to include in conversations with retailers. Also, it enables you to monitor if agreements with retailers are being upheld and sustained. The first step is usually to provide the user with a live demo of the monitor."
