Czech Republic: Building more farms domestically with new partnerships

"Next year, GreeenTech has a lot of projects planned and will be pretty big in this small vertical farming industry," says Dmitrij Lipovskij, CEO of GreeenTech, a vertical farming company based in the Czech Republic.

GreeenTech produces leafy greens and sells turnkey systems to enable others to do the same. GreeenTech currently has two production systems: its GreeenBox container farms and its Urbanio system, which is a smaller (but still modular) system designed for offices looking to incorporate greenery for employees' benefits and sustainability targets. The company's current focus is improving both technologies in terms of hardware to be more efficient and intuitive for the operators. The company is also working on its brand by developing a new website and additional materials.

GreeenTech has a farm operating in Prague, with plans to build its farm base around the Czech Republic by adding three more farms. The company's goal is to serve consumers within a 100-km radius of the farms to minimize transportation and provide the highest level of freshness possible.

By adding more farms, GreeenTech can work on developing partnerships with national supermarket chains and eventually have its products on shelves throughout the country. The company has already worked with Albert, a Czech supermarket company.

Major developments underway in the Middle East
As Dmitrij explains, GreeenTech had its pilot installation in the Czech Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020, where the general manager of the Radisson hotels saw the technology and liked it. Eventually, GreeenTech installed its containerized growing system at the Radisson Hotel. GreeenTech is currently working on a contract with the hotel chain to develop more farms at hotels throughout the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.

"We are planning on launching ten more farms with them within the next year and are currently fine-tuning the details. We really used the expo to let the farm speak for itself and have since built our business development in the region and met many potential customers, from schools to retail and hotels," says Dmitrij.
