The Wageningen University Fund is pleased to announce the new Feike Sijbesma Sustainable Innovation Award, to be presented annually. This is an incentive award for innovative entrepreneurs who have been focusing on global climate and food security issues for up to seven years.
Feike Sijbesma, the namesake of the award, was chairman of the board of Royal DSM from 2007 to 2020. During that time, he transformed the company from a bulk chemicals company into a global leader, focused on nutrition, health, and sustainable living. Sustainability and innovation were core values herein and form the base of the strategy. In addition, Sijbesma has always attached great importance to inclusion and diversity, values that are also included in the selection procedure.
Stimulating entrepreneurship
Funded by the DSM Brighter Living Foundation, in collaboration with the University Fund Wageningen and Wageningen University & Research, this award provides stimulative funding to innovators and entrepreneurs with scalable solutions for climate-proof food systems. This fits in ideally with the ideas of Feike Sijbesma. Because these are Wageningen themes, the DSM Brighter Living Foundation approached WUR, and the award, which has an important link with the UN's SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), was placed with the Wageningen University Fund.
